Rachel, the brilliant mind behind Chezlin.com was inspired by the woven look of these Keen Footwear bags to create her own from fused plastic bags.

Awesome use of fused plastic, I must say! Here's my favorite Make Magazine video tutorial on fused plastic bags, for more fused plastic goodness.

Project Estimate:

  • Plastic shopping bags, multiple colors. FREE (not counting the shopping you'd have to do to get them!)
  • Sewing machine, thread, scissors (on hand)

Total Cost: FREE! Plus you're helping to save the environment by reusing disposable plastic bags.

Just curious if anyone had a tutorial, or knew of one, to make the backpack in the first image? (or something like it)

@Jane Thanks for the comment. I don’t have a tutorial for making that particular backpack, but if you get a pattern for a backpack you can make it out of fused plastic (it works basically like fabric).

I do have a tutorial for making a backpack out of fused plastic, so maybe it will get you started: http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/04/fused-plastic-backpack/
