You don't have to blow a lot of cash to make jewelry! Next time you get the itch to go down the jewelry-making aisle at your local craft store (you guys know what I'm talking about!!), go down the sporting goods aisle at your local dollar store first.

Craftster member retro-redux scored these fishing accessories at the dollar store and transformed them into joining links for a clever necklace that showcased buttons from her stash as beads. Sweet!

Project Estimate:

  • Fishing accessories $1
  • Jump Rings $1 or so
  • Buttons (on hand)

Total cost: $2

If you like this project, check out my friend Susan Beal's forthcoming book Button It Up: 80 Amazing Vintage Button Projects, due out in March 2009.
