Kim at the You Can Make This blog posted a fun gift idea for a tween: a mirrored hairclip holder. One of the things I love about Kim's blog is that she includes the actual cost of her craft projects, which is helpful when deciding what projects to dive into! This project could be modded in several different ways. You could use a piece of lace to make it into an earring holder (always necessary, isn't it?), or add some cup hooks on the side to hold necklaces and bracelets. You can customize the look just by changing out the paper and embellisments you use to decorate it. This is an inexpensive gift that can work well for a lot of different girls!

Project Estimate:

  • Mirror (like the ones in the candle section), $1
  • Hairclips, $1 and up
  • Scrap wood, free
  • Scrapbook or other pretty paper or fabric, on hand
  • Ribbons, ric rac and other embellishments, on hand

Total cost: $2
