Craftster user yellowlady made a cute birdfeeder with stuff she bought at the dollar store. She found some cute dishes and bowls – great supplies for dollar store crafting! This is a nice way to say hello to Spring and welcome the birds back to the neighborhood!

Joy at Spool, who brought us the awesome Placemat Clutch project is proving to be a ninja of placemat transformation and has created a fabulous project: Placemat Expanding File. Joy says: “This project is extremely quick. Reading the directions will probably take longer than sewing it up!”

Dollar Store Crafts reader Julie of JoolsJewels referred me to this great tutorial for a boxy pouch by three bears. The original tutorial makes a wee little bag (4.5 inches long, 3 inches high and 2 inches deep). Apparently you can get approximately three teeny bags from one fat quarter, which is awesome, especially if you are using super-special fabric like this cute Japanese print.

Craftster user demekah made these shoes completely from scratch using stuff she got at the dollar store. The soles are made from craft foam, and the uppers are made from dish towels. The “button” is a poker chip!

Craftster user Pretty.Odd created a backpack out of a stuffed bear. The dollar store typically carries stuffed bears that are about 12-14″ tall and would work very well for a backpack!
A bear backpack would be really cute for a pre-schooler (or for a tween who likes that kind of thing). If you perfect the technique, these would make great birthday gifts!
