Finnish designers Greta Muuri and Isla Myllys have done some interesting work with recycled materials, including some work with cassette tapes (and the tape that comes in them). I personally love recycled audio equipment crafts, and this is another great addition to the projects we’ve been collecting here on Dollar Store Crafts. [how to make a cassette tape bracelet]
You probably won’t find a cassette tape at the dollar store, but chances are you already have one on hand that you wouldn’t mind using for this project, or you can pick one up at the thrift store.
Project Estimate:
- Cassette Tape, on hand or about $.25 at a thrift store
- Cotton yarn, on hand
- Cotton scrap fabric, on hand
- Zipper, on hand or $1
Total cost: FREE and up

That’s really quite awesome! It’s like the record cuffs (natural descendent of the classic record bowl), only moved a little bit further forward in time. Alas, this may be the end of the music-recordings-of-human-history-melted-into-wrist-cuffs lineage; I doubt CDs will make good cuffs, unless you sanded down any sharp edges and backed them with something sturdy, like leather. I could be wrong, though.
Hmm. A leather cuff with pieces of broken CD (possibly microwaved) stitched to it. This could be interesting!

@corvus I used broken CD pieces stitched to a bra for an art show piece. I called it 36-CDR.

How funky is that! The zipper really gives it that something special.
Oh, also I gave you an award for your SUPER blog:

I actually did see cassette tapes at the Dollar Store yesterday! But I’m too cheap to pay a whole dollar for them, so I get mine at the thrift store. This is really neat! I couldn’t tell where the tape was from looking at the picture the first time. It’s cool and not too in-your-face.

I can’t seem to follow the link for the how to on this bracelet. Does anyone have the instructions or a different link?
heather
@Laura, looks like the site is gone. I emailed the owners, so hopefully they will get back to me. Otherwise, we are out of luck.

@Laura, the link is updated now.
