Make Abstract Art

I recently discovered children's author Eric Carle's blog, and he seems like such a lovely person! He posts nice entries that have encouragement about making art, as well as info and commentary on his celebrated books (like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"). Here's a project he did made from recycled yogurt lids he had used for paint pallettes. Have you ever looked at the tools you use to make art and craft as art themselves? [link to original blog entry]

You don't need to buy individual yogurts for this project. Anything can be used for a paint pallette. How about juice can lids, or milk jug lids? I'm sure you regularly use things that would make great art! Framing them in a striking way also goes a long way to distinguish them.

Project Estimate:

  • Recycled yogurt lids, or other similar, on hand
  • Paint, on hand
  • Frame $1
  • White paper for background, on hand

Total: $1
