Make a Car Trash Bag

Chica and Jo come up with a lot of great projects, and I really love the design for this trash bag for your car. The top is elasticized to keep all the trash inside, and the bottom is sealed with velcro for easy emptying. I have been meaning to make a trash bag from dollar store stuff and write a tutorial for you, but this design is so awesome, I'm just going to make one of these instead! [full project tutorial here]

You can sometimes find flannel-backed vinyl tablecloths at the dollar store, or you can use some of Chica's upcycled suggestions like old tent material or fabric from a broken umbrella. This would also be a great use for fused plastic! The project calls for boning (around the top to keep the bag open). You can try using zip ties from the dollar store instead!

Project Estimate:

  • Fabric (vinyl tablecloth, etc.), on hand or $1
  • Ribbon, on hand or $1
  • Boning, cord, wiring, or zip ties, on hand or $1
  • Elastic, on hand or $1
  • Velcro, on hand or $1

Total: Free to $5

Not sure if you read back… I am glad I found a use for a ripped vinyl tablecloth that I was going to throw away.
