Here's a great use for dollar store placemats: make a gardener's apron! You need a pretty place to keep all your gardening tools, right? This is a quick and easy idea from Yarni Gras. Anyone on your gift list who gardens would appreciate this one! [click here for project instructions]

This sewing project is simple enough to be appropriate for even beginning sewers. You can find placemats of all sorts at the dollar store, but you will need to visit the fabric store or sewing section of your local department store to pick up the double-fold hem tape.

Project Estimate:

  • 2 Placemats. $1 each
  • Hem Tape, $1.50

Total: $3.50

This is awesome. I’m not a gardener but I work at an after school program, helping kids with their homework. I am going to make a homework helper apron, with pockets to hold pencils, pens, erasers and a calculator. Maybe one to hold treats! Thanks.
