Disney at Ruffles and Stuff made this great ruffly pom-pom lamp using some unlikely suspects from her local dollar store kitchen section. Would you believe she spent only a dollar on this? She had some vital materials on hand, but you can still make it for less than five bucks even if you don’t have any of the materials on hand! Making lamps out of dollar store stuff is one of my favorite kinds of dollar store crafting, and we don’t do nearly enough of it around her! Let’s resolve to make more lamps in 2010! Are you with me? If you are, post your lamp projects on our Facebook page or email me! [dollar store ruffly lamp tutorial]

Disney used tulle to cover her lamp. You can find rolls of tulle in the wedding section of your dollar store. You could also use bath poufs for the ruffly part (sounds like it could be cool, or could be chintzy. I’d have to see it to know!), or it would be so cool to use feathers! They have dress-up feather boas in the toy section at Dollar Tree right now.

Project Estimate:

  • 2 rolls of tulle, $2
  • Plate covers, 2 for $1
  • White twinkle lights, $1 or on hand (might be hard to find at the DS this time of year!)

Total: $4 and up
