@Jen You can mix your own chalkboard paint with regular flat latex house paint (starts at about $12/gallon at home improvement store). You mix one cup of paint with 2 Tablespoons of unsanded grout to make the paint. The recipe is at the bottom of this page: http://www.marthastewart.com/article/make-custom-color-chalkboard-paint

Thanks for sharing this post! I never knew how much you could do with chalkboard paint or that you could mix it in different colors. Pretty cool. Is chalkboard paint expensive? Just wondering.

Thanks!

ooooh, I LOVE blackboard paint. Thanks for the great ideas! I have another little suggestion that might fit in with the Dollar Store-theme: I used blackboard spray to cover the logo on one of those cheapo advertising mugs you often get as giveaways from companies. You can either just spray a simple square label of blackboard paint over it, or you can do what I did: Cut a silhouette, stick it over the logo and spray over it. This would obviously also work on a Dollar Store mug. Here is a tute: http://craft-werk.blogspot.com/2010/03/from-ugly-mug-to-high-profile-mug.html
Keep the great ideas coming - your blog is one of my daily stops.
