If you haven’t heard about the Iron Craft challenge going on this year, you should definitely check it out! Each week, they are issuing a new themed challenge for crafters to complete. The theme for the first week was “Lighting the Winter Gloom,” with a call for crafts related to candles, lamps, and other light sources. There were a lot of fabulous entries, but one in particular really caught my eye. Claire from Poopscape hacked an Ikea lamp by covering it with black and white photo negatives. I love the way it looks with the light shining though it. You can use whatever photo negatives you have on hand for the project. I think it would be neat to make them using negatives from specific events, like a family reunion or vacation photos! [how to make a photo negative lamp]
Project estimate:
- Ikea Grönö lamp, $6.99
- Photo negatives, on hand
- Mod Podge, on hand
Total: $6.99

What a great idea! i actually have two of these very lamps in my home! And Millions of old negatives and transparencies! I am wondering if transparency material will work. Probably will fade with the intense light – but wouldn’t it be lovely!

I love this idea but the link is gone on how to make it…can anyone help me out? Also can you use a different lamp?

@Latisha, I have to wait on the project link – looks like the site is just down but not out. You get the lamp at IKEA, or you can use any other similar lamp. To make it, you just brush Mod Podge on the lamp, stick the negatives to the Mod Podge, and then MP over the whole thing.
You can get Mod Podging tips at tricks over at Mod Podge Rocks!

Does it not get too hot? Negatives don’t burn as easily as paper but they are still flammable.
