Make DIY Perler Beads

They're making a comeback as Perler beads; when I was growing up in the 80s they were "those beady things that you melt with the iron."  I've even seen kits with them at the dollar store lately.  But the ones seen here are none of the above.  Feeling experimental, PC from Meijo's Joy made these out of something most people would throw away: recycled drinking straws!  The process still needs some refining, but definitely has awesome possibilities!  [how to make DIY Perler beads]

Project estimate:

  • Colored drinking straws, on hand or $1
  • Wax paper, on hand
  • Iron, on  hand

Total:  Free and up

I agree, using straws to make your own is such a fun idea!

As a kid I didn’t know what they were called either! So fun though.
