If you ask me, these fabulous faux tin tiles by Suzy at Suzy's Artsy Craftsy Sitcom look like they came off the shelf of Pier 1 Imports.  But they're actually a DIY project!  Imagine the looks on the faces of your friends and family when you tell them that these gorgeous creations started out as disposable cookie sheets.  (For real!)  Bravo to Suzy for her amazing use of such humble materials!  [how to make colorful faux tin tiles]

Project estimate:

  • Aluminum cookie sheets, $1
  • Knitting needle or other pointed instrument, on hand
  • Paint, on hand or $1 and up
  • Spray primer, on hand or $1 and up
  • Bulletin board, on hand or $1 and up
  • Thumb tacks, on hand or $1

Total:  $1 and up

I wish I could leave work and go home and make this RIGHT NOW! So cool! I actually have an embossing tool that would work even better than a knitting needle for this craft. Also, rather than tacking them to a corkboard, as Suzy recommends, they might also look great with some double-sided foam tape on the back and lined up as a back splash in a little kitchen.

WOW…who knew??!! I have been trying to find an affordable way to tin tile my kitchen ceiling…I think I have found it! I may regret it when I’m tired and have an aching back, but my wallet and my husband will be HAPPY!!! And no one on the floor will know I spent less than $2 a tile on my beautifl ceiling!! Thanks for the “crafty tip”!

What kind of paint can we use so the metal still shines through?
