I always love looking through magazines and finding less expensive ways to recreate my favorite items. I found a pictures frame very similar ti this one for over $40.00. I was shocked! Thanks to the Dollar Tree I was able to recreate it for only $2.00.
Project estimate:
- 8×10 picture frame, $1
- 5×7 picture frame, $1
- Paper, on hand
- Photo, on hand
- Glue, on hand
First remove the picture stand and hangers from the back of the 5×7 frame.
Next chose a background piece of scrapbook paper for the 8×10 frame. Then place a picture in the 5×7 frame and replace the back.
Lastly place a small amount of glue in the 5×7 frame towards the inside of the edge. This will allow movement when placing so you will not have glue showing on the outer edge. Once the glue is in place center the 5×7 frame on the front of the 8×10 and press down. Allow to dry on its back for at least 1 hour to avoid the frame slipping.

It looks really cool, but I’m confused as to what is being glued together? Is the back of the 5×7 glued to the scrap paper? Is there enough room to still put the backing of the 8×10 on?

@Elizabeth, you are basically preparing the photo in the 5×7 frame, and then gluing the whole frame to the glass of the 8×10. You won’t be able to switch photos out once the whole thing is glued together (but hey, it was only $2.)

This is gorgeous. I never thought to do it but I love it. My mother-in-law just stores her old photos with the frames still on, so it wouldn’t even matter, and the photo you have is wonderful.

If everything is glued together, wouldn’t it be better to just glue the frame of the 5×7 to the glass (without a picture or any backing), then put the mat/picture in the 8×10?
