Make a pocket square notebook for dad for father's day

Does Dad wear a suit to work? If so, this notebook would make a great Father’s Day gift that he’ll be able to use every day. Because the notebook is cleverly disguised as a pocket square, he’ll be able to keep it in his suit pocket and still look fashionable at the same time!

Project estimate:

  • Notebook, $1
  • Tie, $1 and up
  • Binder clips, on hand
  • Saw, on hand
  • Hot glue gun and glue, on hand
  • Scissors, on hand

Total: $2 and up

Step 1: Use the binder clips around the perimeter of the notebook to stabilize it. Use a pen to draw a line down the middle to use as a guide. Place the notebook on top of an old box or tray in order to protect your table and then use a saw to cut the notebook in half.

Step 2: Lay your notebook on the wide, pointed end of the tie. Cut a piece from the tie that measures twice the length of the notebook with about an inch of extra.

Step 3: Use hot glue to attach the tie to the front and back covers of the notebook. Open the notebook and wrap the excess around to the inside, securing with hot glue. If the paper pad from the inside pops out during this process, don’t panic! Just set it aside and glue it to the cover along the spine when you are done wrapping the cover. If needed, clean up any fringe by lightly searing with matches or a lighter.
