Mummy Cameron posted this sweet idea at The Princess & The Monkey.: a baby onesie embellished with a pretty crochet doily. This would be a great gift for a baby shower (or it would even make a great activity at a baby shower: embellishing onesies!) The dollar store carries onesies AND doilies, so if you don’t crochet, you can pick up a couple of ready-made crochet doilies for a quick and pretty project. [Project found via One Crafty Place]

If you’ve been following Dollar Store Crafts for a few months, you’ll know that I am a sucker for projects that involve doilies! Even I didn’t know that about myself until I started gravitating toward projects that use doilies!

Another installment of my “I’m broke” decorations this year, featuring more doilies. Those things rock! Vertical garlands are a simple way to dress up your windows, and cost effective, since these doilies cost 5 cents each (or less)! Anchor the garland with a piece of hard candy to make it hang nicely.
Project Materials:
Doilies, each package $1
Hard candy, on hand or $1
Pretty yarn (or fishing line, thread, ribbon), on hand or $1
Total cost: $1 or so

Bigger is often better, but not usually cheaper! In this case, an oversized snowflake made out of paper doilies is a super cheap and dramatic addition to your winter decorations. These would be wonderful decorations for a classroom, party, or your home.
I got a package of styrofoam discs and some skewers with plans to do another project, but when I saw an oversized snowflake decoration in a public building I thought, “Hey! I can make that with stuff I have!”
Project Materials:
Styrofoam disc, 6 for $1
Doilies, each pack $1
Wooden skewers, 100 …

This year, I am making Christmas decorations using what I have on hand! These yarn tassels are quick, easy, and a great way to use up scraps of yarn, or just bust into your stash. I am using them to jazz up my homemade decorations and add a bit more sophistication to stuff made with humble materials (like paper doilies and construction paper!).
Project Materials:
Yarn, on hand
Recycled cardboard, on hand
Scissors
Total cost: FREE!
1. Cut recycled cardboard into shape shown: a rectangle with a large, narrow notch cut out horizontally near the top …
