Tutorial: Emergency Candy Bottles

I’m a big fan of Margot Potter’s creative work, and she recently published a tutorial for an adorable candy vial necklace charm.  I thought the idea was so cute that I wanted to make my own version.  Rather than a wearable piece, I designed mine to be a cute little gift, or even a party favor.

Project estimate:

Colored Glass Bottle, 2 for $1.77
Non pareils, on hand or …

Designer Inspired DIY Burlap Wall Art

Burlap is still hot in home decor, and it’s such a versatile medium to craft with!  I saw these adorable customized monogram prints at Pottery Barn Kids, and decided to make my own version.  I recycled an old art frame and repurposed a burlap bag to create an inexpensive version of a high end product.  Here’s how:

Make Jewelry From Hardware: Part 3

I hope you’ve enjoyed my series on how to make jewelry from a single $1 box of hardware.  Once I started playing with the hardware pieces, it was really fun to come up with different ways to transform them into jewelry.   I hope I’ve inspired you to look at items in a different way and to find beauty in unexpected places!  That’s one of …

Make Jewelry from Hardware: Part 2

Last week I showed you how to make a faux rusty bracelet using hardware.  I’m using pieces from this kit I found in the toy section at Dollar Tree, and teaching you how you can make FOUR different pieces of jewelry by using this single $1 box.  Last week’s piece was a bit grungy, this week I’m going with a more sleek look.

Since Independence Day …

Make Jewelry from Hardware: Part 1

I’ve noticed a lot of great looking jewelry being made with hardware.  I like the rugged, steampunk look of this unconventional jewelry, and wanted to give it a try.  I found several interesting building kits in the toy section at Dollar Tree, and they were full of interesting hardware.  I bought one of the kits (to build a dog?) and started playing with the pieces.

So …

Tutorial: Elegant Table Decor from Pulp Pots

I love finding ways to make dollar items look like they’re something much more high end.  I find that a nice metallic paint is one way to up the “wow” factor of a simple item.  When I saw a pack of 10 seed pots for $1 in Target’s dollar spot, I grabbed them.  Not for gardening, but for crafting, of course!    With a little …

Summer Nail Art: Watermelon Manicure

I love nail art.  But – and this is a really big but – I am generally not patient, coordinated, and artistic enough to pull off a nail art manicure on my own.  I recently saw a really cute video tutorial for watermelon nails and, while fairly basic compared to many other nail art tutorials I’ve seen, it still felt like it was a little …

Father’s Day Mason Jar Gift with Printable

Moms often receive flowers for mother’s day, but who’s to say dad wouldn’t enjoy a plant for father’s day?  My husband enjoys cooking and using fresh herbs, so I thought it would be fun to make him a father’s day gift that could live on the counter, look good, and still be useful.  I went with mint because of the lovely smell and the fact …
