Martha always comes up with the best ideas (or at least her well-paid team of highly creative geniuses does!). This one looks so cute: a bandanna apron. It's also extremely simple. Even if you're uncomfortable with the idea of sewing, you should be able to pull this one off! If you're going dollar store pure on this, you might need to sub ribbon for the twill tape, but it shouldn't make a huge difference in the overall look of the apron.
