Revamp Jewelry With Nail Polish
by heather
Crafty star Cheryl Ball of Still Crafty After 50 revamped this metallic flower necklace and added tons of color with a simple technique and supplies she found at the dollar store. She found the all-gold colored necklace at a trendy store in the mall, but didn't like its lack of color, so she painted the flowers with various colors of nail polish! You can find so many colors of nail polish, whether at the dollar store or in the 99 cent rack at your local drug store. Use this technique to refresh any old costume jewelry that has lost its luster, or to customize just about any junk jewelry that is languishing at the back of your jewelry box. Project Estimate:
- Nail polish, various colors, $1 each
- Junk jewelry, old jewelry, on hand
Total: $1 and up

I love using my extra nail polish as paint. This came out very well. Inspiring.
Great idea. I have some cool pieces but the colours never worked for me. I’ll keep this idea on file.
Why couldn’t someone use nailpolish on real sterling silver? or gold for that matter? what’s better- clear nail polish or resin to seal it? are there other sealing techniques? thanks so much!
Ooooh fun. I also hear that nail polish, clear, will help with earrings if someone has sensitive ears. you just polish it on and let it dry to the part that goes through your ear lobe and the irritation will go away. great with cheaper costume jewelry that’s cute but not the highest of quality.
Looks great! I use dollar store nail polishes in silver and gold to touch up tarnished parts on the vintage lamps I refurbish. Works like a charm if you seal it well!
