Make a Ruffly T-shirt Scarf

Reader Disney from Ruffles and Stuff made this awesome scarf from a pair of jersey (t-shirt material) pants! It's a quick and easy project, and look how cute. It will take you from the last hot days of summer into fall, and beyond. I have seen a lot of t-shirts at my local dollar stores, lately, so if you don't have an old one you want to use, you can pick one up for a buck. [click here for instructions]

This is a low-sew project, so if you're afraid of sewing, don't be afraid to check it out - it involves pinning and sewing in a straight line, which you can DO! I know you can!

Project Estimate:

  • T-shirt, on hand or $1
  • Pins, on hand
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and mat, on hand
  • Sewing machine, thread, on hand

Total: FREE and up

I looked through all the archives at Rufflesandstuff.com and it’s not on the site anymore. I emailed the author, so maybe she’ll repost the tutorial or let me republish it.

If not, the basic jist of the tutorial is that you cut a whole bunch of squares out of jersey (t-shirt like material) with your rotary cutter, then you lay them out overlapping each other, pin them together, and then sew down the middle of the line with a stretch stitch on your sewing machine.

Heather, do you layer the squares evenly on top of each other or just haphazardly on each other?

  • heather (author) said:

@sarah, overlapping diamonds. I would lay them out as evenly as you can.
