I have a true confession for you. I hoard used baby wipes containers. Phew, I feel so much better now that I’ve admitted my problem. We use the kind that come in a crinkly plastic bag with a flip-top opening. I have held onto these wipes containers in the vain hope I would use both the bags AND the flip-top openings for various craft projects. I have a couple in mind, but way more bags than I need. I guess I’ll go clean out my “junk I’m saving” drawer to eliminate some of my extra bags… right after I post about this crinkly baby toy made by Larissa at For the Love of Craft. [Note: blog entry is no longer there, so check out Valerie’s excellent crinkly toy tutorial here]

One of the projects I had in mind for my baby wipes plastic was to use the plastic as a crinkly center for a baby toy, because the littles just love to play with things that make noise! Lucky for me, Larissa already did it, and posted a tutorial about it at her blog. This toy has pretty loops of ribbon sticking out of it, but I also think it would be fun to put tabs of the soft, loopy side of Velcro sticking out so you can attach random stuff to the toy, just for fun. You can be creative in coming up with the kinds of things to attach, but to get you started, you could make a series of shapes in different colors so you could teach about color and shape at the same time. Just a thought. [Valerie’s crinkly toy tutorial]

Use scrap fabric for this project! These would be great baby shower gifts.
