Make Your Own “Bent Objects!”

Have you seen Terry Border's work?  If not, you MUST!  He takes wire, pliers, and everyday objects and turns them into the most FABULOUS characters.  I only recently discovered his blog, Bent Objects, and nearly died laughing at all his little friends!  Terry also has a new book out called Bent Objects:  The Secret Life of Everyday Things.  I am dying to get my hands on that book!

Anyway, after looking at his entire blog and discovering his basic wire bending how-to, I decided to try a little "bent object" of my own.  I busted out some of the dollar store floral wire I've been hoarding and went to town:

(Please, feel free to mock me and my deformed birdie; there is NO comparison between Terry's work and my feeble first attempt!)

The possibilities for this idea are endless!  What object will YOU bend?
[go to Terry's basic wire bending how-to]

Project Estimate:

  • floral wire, $1
  • pliers, $1 or on hand
  • object to personify, on hand

Total: $1 and up

How fun! Your birdie turned out great! You can’t expect your first try to be as refined as Terry’s, since he has made probably hundreds of them. I love Bent Objects – thank you for posting about it and making your own version. So fun. I can imagine this would be a fun project to do with grade schoolers on up! I know my preschoolers would love to play with the final objects, too.

Just came across your site from a Google search. Love it! Totally up my (frugal) alley! Will definitely be bookmarking it and adding it to my blogroll.

I have a new meme happening on Mondays called “Make It Myself Monday” where authors of other craft blogs (or the newbie crafter just trying something out…aka – me) can link up any post to something they ‘made themselves’. The post doesn’t have to have been written on a Monday, or even recently…it can come from your archives. I’d love for you to come on over and link up one of your posts…since it is a new meme, I am looking for some great crafters to get the ball rolling!

    Check it out here: bit.ly/7oObgs

    Thanks!
