Heather at My Frugal Family, a good friend of Dollar Store Crafts and a great frugal crafter came up with this pretty shamrock sign using leftover valentine hearts — great way to reuse your valentine decor, don’t you think? Plus, the hearts make the prettiest shamrocks I’ve seen around blogland! Hurry up and make some of these for your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, okay? [click here for project instructions]

Heather also used a clever trick: painting over a pre-printed dollar store canvas sign to create a canvas for her art. If you used white gesso, you could prepare those little canvases and use them for paintings, which would save you a few bucks if you like to paint your own art. You could also use a wooden board (find ’em at the dollar store or unfinished wood section in your local craft stores) to make this into a plaque.

Project Estimate:

  • Canvas or wooden board, $1
  • Wooden hearts (or make your own out of cardboard), $1
  • Paint, on hand
  • Ribbon, on hand

Total: $2
