Here's how to turn a dollar store ornament into a faux bronze embossed designer knock-off ornament.

Here’s how to turn a dollar store ornament into a faux bronze embossed designer knock-off ornament.

When this picture showed up in my Pinterest feed, I knew immediately that I wanted to try to make my own version.  I dashed off to Dollar Tree to buy the extra large ornaments I had seen there a few days earlier, and started hatching a plan. After I was done, I eventually clicked on the Pinterest link and realized the ornaments I had copied were porch sized, but I’m still going to check this off as a successful knock off.

Project Estimate:

  • Ornament – $1
  • Tulip Puffy Paint – on hand or $2
  • Gold Spray Paint (I used a hammered finish) – on hand
  • DecoArt Renaissance Brown Metallic Glaze – $3

Total:  $4 and up

step 1
Step one:  Draw a design on the ornament with a marker.  I used a stencil, but you can free hand your design, too.

step 2

Step two:  Fill in the design with puffy paint and let it dry.

Step three:  Spray paint the entire ornament gold.

Step four:  Use a soft cloth to rub the brown glaze onto the ornament.

I love the transformation from cheap dollar store ball ornament to expensive looking ornament.  I’m going to make several and add them to my door wreath.  You could make other versions with monograms or team logos to create one of a kind gift ornaments.  If you want to make a faux pewter ornament, try this idea.  Have fun crafting and creating!
