Have you ever played with a bleach pen? It’s a small pen made for laundry use that contains a bleach solution that is a medium-thick gel. If you use it on dark clothing and let it set for an hour or two, you can create eye-catching one of a kind clothing. It’s a great way to give new life to old jeans that you’re tired of. Naja at My Closet Thrift Store made this cool pair of bleach-patterned jeans. [how to make bleach pen pants]
Project Estimate:
- A piece of dark clothing, on hand
- Bleach pen, about $5 – I found one for $6.75 on Amazon, but it’s probably cheaper at your local store: Bleach Pen
Total: about $5

The link you’ve got here doesn’t work, it just leads to a picture of the jeans. And if My Closet Thrift Store is a blog, there isn’t a link to that either…

This is such a great idea! I wonder how it would look mixed with some embroidering? I’m will defiantly give it a try on some old jean shorts I have around.

Hi there – just so you know, the link to “how to” isn’t working. I think it should point here:

Super cool – I would probably use a stencil just because my hand is so unsteady. I could never be a surgeon. :D

link for the tutorial is not working.

So pretty! If only I weren’t allergic to bleach *sigh*

Just a warning!!!! I did this with a black t shirt (and a TARDIS stencil). The black t shirt comes out orange, and I made the huge mistake of buying the bleach pen at the dollar store! I should have known something was up when I took the cap off the pen and it didn’t smell like bleach. I ended up using real bleach (from a bottle) and a q tip, which worked pretty well: only minor smudging.
So you can use regular bleach and qtips, making this craft even more affordable.
Thanks for all of the good work, Dollarstorecrafts and friend.
Love ya!

Fun idea!

@Kristie, thank you so much for the tip! Q-tip plus bleach FTW!

I wonder if you can make a bleach paste… bleach + maybe baking soda, then put/mix in plastic baggie, snip off end and draw away on your clothing/bag/whatever… hmmm.. I might try it!

This is fun project, I’ve a actually done this project before with great results. I used my bleach pen to draw a design on the back pockets of a pair of jeans that I had been wearing awhile making them feel like new. I received tons of compliments and people asking me where I bought them, after telling my secret, they were amazed on how something so simple could look so professional. Have fun! Love ya Dollar Store Crafts!
