Are you a scrap saver? It drives my husband nuts, but I can’t stand to throw away bits of pretty papers, fabrics, and other supplies that are left over at the end of a project. Over on our Facebook page, reader Sara posed a question about one of her scrappy collections: Little pieces of ribbon. She has tons of little pieces ranging in length from about 6 to 10 inches. They would be perfect as scrapbook embellishments, but alas she isn’t into scrapbooking.
Whaddaya think, folks? What can you make with a whole bunch of odds and ends of ribbon?

Taggie blankets for babies are always a hit

I agree with taggie blankets. Also, how about rugs, made in the same manner as a latch hook but not making pictures? Ribbon barrettes for little girls. Add velcro to the ends, add different types of embellishments, and make some bracelets.

make bows for little girls hair!

A ribbon scrap belt or wallet of course! ;)

I love making little character pins. I make 2″ people — superheroes, dancers, look-alikes, Santa, etc. then put a pin-back (or hair clip) on the back. They’re adorable on a denim purse, jacket, backpack… I even made a Superman pin that was pinned to a decorative towel in our superman themed bathroom. It takes a little fooling around to get the people right. I used to sell kits and instruction books but due to health problems I had to close my website. Let me see if I have any links… Okay, they’re not my best ones, but this gives you an idea:

That’s a good length for small ribbon flowers. Or bookmarks. Or gather them into little fans and use as pendants for necklaces/earrings.

with 6 & 10 inch lengths, they could be folded over for a loop, hot glued and make an adorable wreath!
Lori
She could use them to decorate flip flops-just tie the scraps onto the straps.

Ribbon wreaths are fun and super easy to make!

I save scraps, too, and I think hubby questuons my sanity a bit! :o) That said, ribbon scraps even 2-3 inches long can be bundled/tied together to make a bow for a gift you’re giving. I posted an example of this in my blog last Tuesday, and love how it turned out.

You could make bows for pets’ collars- just make sure there’s a loop on the back to thread the collar through! Other ideas: luggage identifier (bright ribbon makes the airport luggage search easier), ribbon detail on cards (flowers, bows, stripes), a key fob, bow for purse loop, bow broach, flower magnets… I think that’s enough!
Happy crafting!

Weave them together or zigzag stitch them together and use the result to cover a mini notebook or as a back ground for an art piece.

I used mine to make little training collars for my new kitten. i want her to be used to collars and harnesses and things when she gets older so i can take her places with me. just take a length slightly shorter than you need to go around her neck and sew a peice of elastic to the ends, so that if it gets caught on anything she can stretch it out and escape. don’t make it too tight, because kittens have tiny necks and big heads and you want to be able to slip it on. you probably wouldn’t want to leave her in it unsupervised, but she’s already stopped trying to take them off :)

Our charity loves the little tag blankets in a 4-6″ square size. They have to fit into a qoart sandwich bag. I’ve made about 100 of them within the past year. But we send out about 10,000 gift packs per year to new moms so obviously my 100 are just a small drop in the bucket of what we can use.
the charity web site is: http://www.giftsfortheunborn.com and the address is there if anyone is interested in making something and donating.

For hanging ornaments, make a loop of ribbon and sew into cloth or felt designs.

I use my ribbon scraps for Ribbon Banners to decorate parties, rooms, or any holiday mantels. You can see an example here:
