I was stalking checking my local Dollar Tree for more of the adorable birds I like to use in my crafts when I found these rooster figures. The rooster was cool, the crazy wire legs were not so cool. No problem! I could still use the part I liked to make a fun, functional gift for father’s day (or a teacher gift!) I paired the rooster with a small wood box to make this French provincial-esque business card holder.
Project estimate:
Rooster, $1
Small wood box, $1
Crackle paint, on hand or $2 and up
Glue, on hand
Total: $2 and up
Step one: Paint the box with crackle paint, or make your own crackle paint.
Step two: Remove the wire legs from the rooster figure. I used pliers to pull them out carefully.
Step three: Use hot glue to attach the rooster to the box.
This quick and easy project makes for a fun gift. If you don’t like roosters, try a different figure on top. This would make an adorable tooth fairy box with a tooth on top, or maybe a trinket box for baby’s first haircut with a cute little baby shoe on top. There are so many possibilities!

I love the vintage style of it! Totally looks like a decades-old treasure. Brilliant dollar store upcycle.
