Over at the DollarStoreCrafts.com’s Best Ideas we started sharing our versions of expensive floral items we had seen at big name stores. As a budget crafter, it’s fun to make my own version of an expensive items for pennies. I had seen faux succulent centerpieces at a home decor store and knew I had to make it myself.
Project estimate:
- Glass jars, on hand
- Burlap and lace, on hand
- Plastic succulents, $1 and up
- Mod Podge, on hand
Total: $1 and up
Step one: Remove labels from jars and clean. I left one jar clear and tinted the other one. I used Mod Podge that was tinted, but you can make your own by simply mixing a bit of food coloring or alcohol ink with regular Mod Podge. Coat the inside of the jar with tinted Mod Podge and let it dry.
Step two: Wrap a piece of burlap around the jar. I used hot glue to hold it in place.
Step three: Wrap a piece of lace around the burlap and glue in place.
All that’s left to do is fill the jar with your favorite plant or flower. I used succulents because I was copying the store item, but these would look just as pretty with flowers or decorative branches inserted. These decorated jars would look great on a mantle, or make pretty centerpieces for a party. Have fun crafting and creating!
