Make a stunning origami wreath using scrapbook paper. This wreath, by flickr user Maliah, uses 26 origami balls and some origami poinsettia. Beautiful!

Update 2011: It has been several years since I posted this project idea. There were never instructions for making the wreath, but here are some resources for how to make the components. Sorta. We haven't been able to find instructions for this specific flower.

Project estimate:

  • 5 sheets of scrapbooking paper, $1
  • Ribbon, on hand

Total cost: $1

Wow. That’s just beautiful. Our son is an origami enthusiast–it keeps him focused for hours at a time, and he always emerges with an intricate design. He’ll love this project. Thanks for sharing.

This isn’t the same flower in the photo, but I found instructions for a different poinsettia-like flower here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/751054

What a beautiful X’mas wreath! I have been searching the origami sites for X’mas garlands. Yours seems to be the perfect one. I wish I could make one myself. But why you didn’t post the how to instructional guide? Kindly be advised that I know how to make origami balls but not poinsettia. And my big curiosity is How you assemble all the balls and flowers to become such a beautiful wreath?

I thank you so much in advance for your response.

    Regards,
    Surja

    Just wonderful!

Please let us know how you made the pointsettias!

HELLO, NICE WORK. JUST WANT TO ASK HOW DID YOU DO THE POINTSETTIAS
    THANKS

@Lani, I didn’t make the poinsettias, and I haven’t been able to find the origami instructions for them. You might want to thumb through some origami books to find a similar flower.

Just thought I’d share, I’m making this out of old wrapping paper! I always feel bad for throwing it out after the holidays so now I’m reusing the stuff I saved from last year and gifting out several to family and friends. Friendly for earth AND my tight student budget

How did you assemble the wreath? Is it just glued together? Is it strong enough to hang up?

  • DeeDee said:

Did anybody figure out how to put it together, or at least have an idea of how to? I’d really like to make this, any help is appreciated!

  • Jackie said:

Not speaking for anybody else here, but I actually strung the boxes together using craft wire then glued it for some added support

How did you get 26 balls out of 5 sheets of paper with out it being tiny? Love the idea though, Can’t wait to make my own.
