Check out this fun Ballard Designs-inspired project from reader Nikki’s Nifty Knacks: silhouette boxes. Don’t you just love this kind of ingenuity? Instead of spending $30 for the Ballard boxes, Nikki created her own. She used papier-mache boxes she had on hand and covered them with sheet music paper and silhouettes. You can usually find paper boxes at craft stores, or you can find a reasonable substitute at the dollar store. This would be a great stashbusting project to use what you already have on hand: maybe shoeboxes and scrapbooking paper or leftover gift wrap? [click here for how to make silhouette boxes] [thanks]
Project Estimate:
- Papier-mache or metal box, $1
- Scrapbook paper or sheet music, on hand or $1
- Silhouettes made out of paper, on hand (make them yourself)
- Ribbon, $1 or on hand
- Mod Podge
, on hand
Total: $1 and up

One Cheap B*tch
I made these too! I love them – mine are a little different but it was a fun project and I actually like the ones I did better than Ballard Designs and these are awesome too!
