So, have you checked out any of the garden stuff at the dollar store yet? They have some good stuff right now! Sharon at Keen Inspirations came up with a way to make a dollar store “stone” planter look even more stone-like. She picked up a can of multi-color textured spray paint and coated three planters with it. She even came up with a little “inside secret” to help stretch the paint even further, and gives other tips (like what kinds of paint to buy). Check out her blog for the info on how to transform your planters.
Project Estimate:
- Planter, $1
- Can of special spray paint, $5.77 (will cover three planters)
Total: $6.77 (but you can get 3 planters out of one can of paint).

Hi! This just came up in my blog’s side bar…thanks for sharing the planter idea here! It’s so easy! I’m working on more today!
Have a great weekend!

I’ve done this with cheap terracotta pots. The one hint I’d add is that if your base pot is a significantly different color than the color you want to paint it, paint it with a base color first before spraying with the stone paint.

What a great idea. Spray painting is the most transformative medium ever!
Terrific thinking – love it.

Well, when you figure $1 each for 3 planters and $5.77 for the paint, $2.92 is not at all a bad price per planter! In fact, I think it’s great. I’d say that would make a nice outside planter for a beautiful plant for any Mom on Mother’s Day!

LOVE it! My yard is made of almost all clay and NOTHING will grow. I wanted to do planter pots all over my yard instead, but the cost is HUGE for nice planters. I am going to do this TODAY! Thanks!
