This week, I met up with Breanna for a dollar store crafting date. Breanna is a fan of Dollar Store Crafts, and we met through the DSC Facebook page. I had a great time checking out the Dollar Tree with her. She shared a couple of her favorite dollar store crafting ideas with me, including this DIY apothecary project. It’s so simple and cheap, that I made a super short video for her “15 second tutorial.” Check it out! And if you’re an active YouTuber, please subscribe to the DollarCraft Channel!
Project Estimate:
- Lidded glass jar, $1
- Candle stick, $1 (or you can find shorter ones 2/$1)
- E6000 glue, on hand
Total: $1.50 and up

Apothecary Jar for $2
To make:
Use E6000 glue (or equivalent) to glue glass candlestick to the bottom of glass jar. Allow to dry, according to directions. Fill it up with pretty stuff, and enjoy!
Thanks for the great idea, Breanna!

this is the exact reason why I went to the Dollar Tree yesterday! Instead of getting the jars with lids (which I will get next time)…I got open mouth vases. They are currently drying right now!!!
So cute!

Oooh, I’ll be looking for those lidded glass jars! I’ve made a few pedestal things without a lid, but I really wanted to make one *with* a lid. Thanks for the tip!!
Rachel
These are so great! Go Dollar Store! Thanks so much for these great videos, I’ll be linking.

I like the short video ideas–fun and fast!

I can see a nice tiered effect going on too, if you combined pedestal-ed jars with some un-modded jars. A cute way of getting more variety into your storage. I prefer a bit of mismatching.
Maddy
That is a VERY good idea! Apothecary jars are so in right now but SO SO expensive! Those look so real, a great gift too! Good job!
Teri
These would be great (as long as the base is stable) for a Betta fish for your counter or work desk. Adds some interest rather than a standard vase.

This is SOOOO cool!!! Definitely doing this. I also saw the post from Martha’s dollar store challenge. Great episode! Love your blog!

THANKS JUST CAN’T WAIT TO PUT MY HUSBAND AUNT’S OLD BUTTON COLLECTION IN THESE JARS AND ALSO ALL MY BEACH FINDS OVER THE YEARS. THANKS AGAIN…
Deanna
I did this for Christmas a couple of years ago, and yes the E6000 glue will certainly keep it together and strong. I have many at different heights and at Christmas time filled with beads, one with silver, one with gold. I also eglued a charger plate to a small candle stick ( all from $tree) to use for treats. I have also used dollar tree’s martini glass as a base. I am huge fan of dollar store crafts, dollar tree, and E6000 glue. It is the best glue in the world, I cannot do without it.
Susan
I had some trouble with the E6000 holding the candlesticks and vase’s…
I did as directed on the package as well… I sure wanted this to work its a awesome idea !
heather
@susan, the way I do it is turn over the vase and glue the candlestick on the bottom of the overturned vase. Then let it dry. It needs to sit for at least 24 hours.
Peggy
Awesome! I plan to do this and paint (swirl technique) the insides of the jars then I can just put a candle in it. Also plan to vary the heights, too! Great for a table centerpiece!
robin
imagine using jewel tones with glass paint on the various levels of the candlestick

Made these for my wedding candy bar. Cute and way cheaper than purchasing already made ones. Made each one different. Turned out beautiful.
Danielle
Can you use a hot glue gun instead of the E6000 glue?
heather
@Danielle, yes you can use hot glue, but it will be temporary, not permanent. Hot glue doesn’t truly adhere to non-porous surfaces like glass.
Stacy
Where do you get the E6000 glue?
rhonda
@Stacy – most hardware store and craft stores carry it. I know that locally you can get it at Manistee Variety. When you go in the store go to the left-hand aisle almost all the way to the back – all of the adhesives are on the top shelf on your right! ;)
Stacy
If only I lived in Manistee…. there’s a Jo Ann Fabric and small variety type store here too though

Best idea ever, I have been asked to create a sweets table and this will definitely make it grand!!! Thanks I also subscribed to your page.

OMG can’t wait to make these! Having a September destination wedding and a late October reception back home in Atlanta! Always wanted to do a candy bar ever since I started seeing them on tv wedding shows. Am so making these! Thanks!

This is perfect for my blog! I have been looking for cheap but useful crafts to make for the typical college student!! Can’t wait to look for more.

I make these but..I get the candle sticks from a local thrift shop for .50 and I use recycled jars from pickles, spaghetti sauce, etc..I have one on my kitchen counter that I keep dishwasher tablets in and another in my bathroom with scented beads (the kind that shrink when they get older) from the dollar tree, we have sold them at local craft fairs as well.
