It was serendipitous that I should come across this toothbrush bracelet by Tristin at Two girls… being crafty the other day. I was thinking about crafts I used to do in high school, and this was always one of my favorites. I made them for a bunch of my friends, and now years later I am thinking about making them for their kids as well. I love the look of the finished bangles, and you won’t believe how simple they are to make! [how to make a toothbrush bracelet]
Project estimate:
- Toothbrush, 3/$1
- Pot of water, on hand
- Stove, on hand
- Tongs, on hand
- Pliers, on hand
Total: about 33 cents each!

My friend’s 11-year-old niece had on one of these yesterday – very cool!

They’re making a comeback! These were popular when I was in middle school.

Haha! I used to make these in middle school too! I bet if I dug around I could find some of my old ones. Thanks for reminding me of such a fun craft :)

When I was younger, some of my friends made these. They used the little kid character toothbrushes though. Instead of buying new toothbrushes solely for this project, it might be wise to turn this into an upcycling project. Since toothbrushes are supposed to be replaced every 3 months they add a lot to the landfills. Simply add the step of washing them with soap and water before removing the bristles. The process of making the bracelets sterilizes them as well, so that eliminates the ick factor.
You could also wash used toothbrushes with soap and water then dip them in boiling water to sterilize. Then you can store them until you have a stockpile for bracelet making. Used toothbrushes are also handy for cleaning and splatter painting.

I’ve been planning on upcycling my tooth brushes but only the clear type seem to bend. Where did you find these particular toothbrushes? My dollar store must be upscale because they only have solid color (does not bend enough). Any suggestions?
