I sent an envelope of stash materials to Marisa Pawelko at Modern Surrealist. She is a talented designer with a love for bright colors and recycled materials, so I knew this stashbusting challenge would be perfect for her. She posted about the stashbusting package she received:
[Here is] picture of the bizarre items I received in my stashbusting challenge kit! I immediately was relieved to see that Heather included some of my old standbys: fuzzy leopard and hot pink items, basic staples of Modern Surrealist projects. I must admit I was intimidated by the the brightly colored plastic hors d’ oeuvres picks and paper drink umbrellas. They really stumped me as I racked my brain thinking what on earth I could do with them craftwise! Inside was also a scrap of yellow and brown printed fabric that is nothing I would ever pick to work with as well as some (forgive me Heather) nasty off white lace trim.
You gotta love that Marisa chose the yellow & brown fabric (a custom screen-printed fabric by Made by Hannah With Love) and the “nasty” lace trim for this tutorial!
Check out the very clever technique of creating volume for the skirt by using the cocktail forks as a kind of boning. Awesome!

Wooooooo! I admit to not liking the individual items but put together, it is great!

Hey Everyone! Thanks for the kind words of praise on my bathroom craft! LOL! I’m glad you enjoyed the craft tutorial. I never would have made such a thing if not for the very random and funny things Heather sent along with the random and funny things from my personal craft stash. The resulting project is kind of the ultimate in bad taste but I must say love it too! I wanted to challenge myself by not choosing the obvious (hot pink and leopard components) and also to surprise Heather by going outside my comfort zone! Thanks so much for including me in the Stashbusting Challenge! It was soooo much fun and I would love to do it again some time! <3 – Marisa
