Over at Mich L. in LA, our friend (and intrepid dollar store crafter) Michelle is constantly amazing us with her innovation. Check out her most recent reuse project: dressing ho-hum beads up in a jaunty silicone sleeve. Where did she find such a silicone sleeve, you ask? Well, come closer my children and you shall hear the tale of Mich L. and her plastic cheerios! [how to dress up beads]
The silicone “cheerios” (as she calls them) are snipped from plastic pencil holders. It turns out they are a super simple way to embellish boring beads and give them a bright, contemporary look. You can find pencil holders at the dollar store.
Project Estimate:
- Beads, on hand
- Pencil holders, $1
- Headpins, $1 or on hand
Total: $1 and up

I am not sure what you mean by a ‘pencil’ box….is it round? I am having one of those DUH moments

Thanks a huge huge bunch, Heather! Glad you liked it. You know I’m nearly as big a dollar store addict as you guys here on Dollar Store Crafts.
Nearly…hee hee. I still think you win.

@Debbie – Not a pencil box, a pencil holder. Follow the link to Michelle’s tutorial and you will see what she’s talking about.

Debbie,
These are the pencil holders that kids use at school (as a teacher, I see these ALL the time). They are available in a wide array of colors and are made of silicon. About 2 inches long, and placed where fingers grip against a pen or pencil.
What fun!
