When Craftster user Burgz came across some reusable ice cubes at the dollar store, she immediately thought of a video tutorial she’d seen for making a necklace using bouncy balls and some hosiery. She replaced the balls with cubes and tossed it in the freezer. Now on the next too-hot-to-move day, she can pull it out for some stylish relief. She even had enough materials left over to make a second necklace, and since she spends her work days outdoors in a garden, she has one for work and one for home! [how to make a cooling summer necklace]
Project estimate:
- Reusable ice cubes, $1
- Nylons, $1
- Ribbon, on hand
Total: $2

LOL…cute. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was made with marshmallows!

This is an awesome idea! I am going to try this as I can’t take the heat either.

Hilarious and genius!

One of my daughter’s best friends has a heart condition which makes it difficult for her body to regulate it’s own temperature. This time of year, she’s constantly overheated. This seems like a wonderful thing to keep on hand for play dates.

@Angela S- Me too! I would imagine that this necklace would be a little heavy?

I also thought it was made of marshmallows at first! Such a cool idea, pun intended. Must make one.

i spent the day wearing my neckband that was full of ‘mystery’ beads that soak up water then cool you off for up to 3 days as the water evaporates off your neck – this is a much CHEAPER alternative, especially when you have access to a freezer! i think even kids wouldn’t object to wearing it, especially when they won’t admit they’re hot & bothered but you know they are because they’re wearing their cranky pants that day!! unfortunately i’ll still have to keep mine around for travelling…like in africa

boy this would be really neat and it would be even better with red, white and blue — but i have cool ties but these would be better — stylish as well!!!!
