Summer is here, and that means it’s time for all kinds of parties.  Graduation open houses, weddings, family reunions, company picnics…  No matter what the occasion, you’ll find this to be a handy idea.  DSC reader and DeviantArt user Mello Reflections sent some photos our way that we absolutely love!  (If you like this idea, be sure to stop by her DeviantArt page to see more or her work!)  Tired of misplacing her drink at parties (something I’m totally guilty of nearly every time there’s a punch bowl in the vicinity), she came up with little markers that slip over the rim of the cup.  Each guest can choose their own shape and use it to identify their drink throughout the day!

Project estimate:

  • Craft foam, on hand or $1
  • Clipart, free
  • Printer, on hand
  • Scissors, on hand

Total:  Free and up

The markers are made using one of our favorite dollar store craft supplies:  craft foam!  To make them, she found some clipart that she liked, resized it on her computer, printed it out, and used the shapes as templates to cut out the foam.  So easy!

To make them fit on the rims of the cups, she added a slit.  The shape of the slit, with a little round cutout at the end, will secure each marker over the rolled rim of a plastic party cup.  Your guests can take them home at the end of the night, or you can save and reuse them for your next gathering!
