It’s State Fair time in Minnesota and that’s all you hear about there, so why not make it our theme this week. Many of us have always wanted to enter something in the fair’s creative activities competitions. Who knows maybe we’ll earn a blue ribbon on Iron Craft for Dollar Store Crafts?! Melinda Hileman’s Submission: Embroidery and Needlepunch
Melinda entered two items into the Iron Craft fair – one under category 149 (Canvas item other than listed above under Canvas Work/Needlepoint) for her window scene and the other under category 172 (Punch needle under Embroidery and Crewel) for her bird on a branch.
Melinda purchased the embroidery pattern by Sarah Jane at Mama Said Sew in Fort Collins, CO. It can be transferred 7 times (Less than $1 per project isn’t bad!) It’s based on the song by Bob Marley. She fused together both layers of one of her hubby’s t-shirts that had holes in it for the canvas. Since she had never done bullion stitches, let alone in a circle, she’s proud of what she accomplished. The frame is from Dollar Tree. Total cost: $2 + DMC floss on hand
The punch needle came from a Dimensions kit. It was her first time doing needle punch, so Melinda is glad it turned out so well. It includes her favorite color combination and one of her favorite animals!
I am a graphic/web designer living in Florida with my husband and dog. I have always loved to craft and shop at dollar stores, so I am excited to be able to combine both for this blog!
