A few days ago I was wandering around Dollar Tree looking for things that might be useful for Halloween crafts. I came upon a shelf full of curvy, round vases, and immediately thought they would make cute Jack-o-lanterns. With a little yarn and some felt, vase is now much more festive! Use one to hold flowers, a candle, or some sweet treats! You could also use white yarn and googly eyes to make a matching mummy vase!
Project estimate:
- Vase, $1
- Orange yarn on hand or $1 and up
- Black felt, on hand or about $0.33
- Glue, on hand
- Ribbon, on hand or $1 and up
Total: $1 and up
Start by flipping your vase upside-down and making a bead of glue all the way around the bottom edge. Press the end of the yarn into the glue and wrap it all the way around; let the glue dry before moving on.
Wrap the yarn in a spiral around the vase, adding a dab of glue every few inches to keep the yarn held firmly in place.
Continue wrapping until you have reached the top of the vase.
Cut Jack-o-lantern features out of a piece of black felt.
Glue the features onto the yarn-wrapped vase.
Trim the top of the vase with a ribbon tied in a pretty bow, which adds a finishing touch and also covers the end of your yarn. Now all that’s left to do is find the perfect place to display it!
