HELP! I have this cute nurse smock but I’m not a nurse and there is no other reason for me to wear it. I wanted to cut it up and resew it and basically upcycle it into a cute everyday shirt, but not sure how so I need help with ideas! DSC, please help me out! – Yvette on the Dollar Store Craft Facebook Page
Hi Yvette, I’m so glad you asked!
- I found this tie-dye scrub revamp over at ilovetocreate.com
- 10 minute hack to make any shirt more flattering at craftster.org
- From Boxy to Foxy t-shirt recon at Brassy Apple (could be adapted for a smock)
I didn’t find a lot of ideas for scrubs online! I would take t-shirt refashions and get ideas from those. I’m sure our commenters will be able to help us out a lot too!
So, what are your ideas for Yvette’s smock top?

Me, I’d probably just wear it as it is. However, you could add embellishments (if the top in the photo, ribbon roses around the neckline could be fun, for example.) Or add ribbon trim. Or re-shape the sleeves. Or any of a number of other things… There are some relatively new books on modifying thrift store and other garments, maybe your library has one of them…
