One of our favorite dollar store crafters is Michelle of Mich L. in LA. She has a weekly feature on her blog where she makes a piece of jewelry out of something unexpected — a supply that she usually finds at the dollar store! This week, she stumped us with the components for this fun “Put a Bird on It” necklace. I recognize where those doves came from, though — they’re favors from the wedding section of Dollar Tree! You get 50 of them in a pack for $1. That’s a whole lotta cute bird necklaces! [how to make a bird necklace]
Because part of the necklace ingredients are a secret, I won’t tell you what one thing is. You’ll have to click over to her site to find out!
Project Estimate:
- Mystery object, $1
- Wedding favor doves, $1
- Jump rings, $1 or on hand
- Eye pins, $1 or on hand
- Chain, $1 or on hand
Total: $2 and up

ooh, thanks, Heather. I agree, those dollar store birds are crafting gold! They are just so detailed and just the perfect size for jewelry – all for a meager buckaroonie.
