What is your holiday decorating style? Do you decorate with a little bit of this and that, or do you prefer to have a fully coordinated holiday style? Do you have a Christmas color scheme this year? We have a few boxes of ornaments we’ve collected over the years, and they don’t match but when you put them together they become a cozy collection of holiday memories. I admire those who have an overall color scheme and lend a studied design eye to their holiday decorations! Maybe someday I’ll grow up to be that kind of person.
For instance, I LOVE the photo above – the color scheme is from Color Sizzle, and the wreath image is originally from Georgia Peachez Wreath Blog. I can only dream of having a house decked out in that color scheme (although, I just found three spools of dollar store ribbon in my stash that kind of work), but maybe some day!
So what is your favorite Christmas color scheme?
p.s. Over at CoffeeTalk, we are discussing Christmas colors, so come join the conversation.

I looove the vintagey colors in your post pic and pinned that link myself. We usually use basic green, wine, and metallic gold, silver, etc but this year I’m adding in turquoise and a smidgen of pink. Not too big on red. I like my holiday decor to blend well w my year-round decor.

We always decorate with a riot of colors, themes, and styles. Generally traditional colors like red, green, gold, silver, white, and blue, but in the past few years we have added purple and pink.

I love the pinks and blues or light greens. But my tree is red and green.

My “theme” (if you want to call it that) is Traditional Family Holiday. some handmade, some store-bought, some Hallmark, some hand-me down. A delicious hodge-podge of ornaments, table-top decorations, runners and wreaths that make it feel like home. In fact, when I finished decorating the downstairs, my 3-year old looked around and said “WOW! Thank you for the Christmas!!”

My apartment is painted in similar colours to the scheme posted above! My living area is turquoise, and my bedroom area is bright fuchsia pink.
This year, we’re not doing much decorating, because we’re going on vacation, but I set up a small pink tinsel Christmas tree, and I have a pink, black, and white felt wreath on my bedroom door.
Last year, my Christmas tree was mostly decorated with bright pink, black, white, gold, and silver decorations.

For Christmas I’m traditional; give me fir-green and berry-red!

I am with you. Tradition comes before style and the kids rule over here so we like the cozy fun stuff. Maybe when the kids move out I’ll have a more stylish Christmas :) but for now I enjoy what we’ve got, it works.

i usually pick 2 or three colours per year with the intent that eventually i’ll have all my favorites and can mix and match without further expense. this year i’m reusing the silver stuff we already have and adding white and clear for an elegant, clean, white-christmas style yule. i’ve found the cheepest and easiest way to do this is to start with a base of white lights and green tree/wreath/swags that go with everything and then raid dollar stores and walmart for big cheep boxes of glass bobbles and ribbons. another nice inexpensive touch is a clear glass vase filled with bare tree branches painted in your chosen colours or scavanged pine cones spray painted in metalics or spray snow. i get to change my whole colour scheme each year for about $30 for a small apartment. now i just have to figure out how to store all this stuff!

We are on a budget, so I have to pick things that I can re-use. This year I decided to not go the usual red, white , green route and picked a color scheme I will enjoy every year…at least for a little while! I also decided that since I like different color schemes, I’ll jsut group them together in different places so it won’t be a mess of color. My main color scheme-I am going with “Christmas” colors but off shades-cranberry, clover green, light blue, and silver. I also have a table of light blue, clover green and lavender.

Green tree, with white, silver, gold, teal, turquoise, bronze plus multi-color lights and miscellaneous other colors in smaller amounts. I collect snowflake and Moravian star ornaments, and I’m fond of glitter, so my tree is very sparkly! I also have peacock ornaments on a manzanita branch, after discovering last year that on the green tree, they just blend in and disappear!

lol our theme is just “Christmas”! We have a green artificial tree, a silver mini tree, a nativity scene that usually ends up sitting on top of the TV, my childhood Christmas stocking and a beautiful handmade patchwork one from my late Aunt Louise, a white crocheted Christmas tree made by my husband’s late grandmother, the bell-shaped Avon bottle I remember since I was 2 years old, and lots of odds and ends either received as gifts, made by me, or picked up at yard sales, thrift shops, or on clearance! My parents gave me a Christmas ornament every year for my future tree growing up, and I have been given others that have special memories as well. Everything from the traditional birds and angels to pop culture icons like Barbie and the Beatles hang on our tree, and if you look closely you’ll find a small cobra as well (I love snakes!). If we have more of one thing than another it is probably cat-themed Christmas decorations.
I cannot abide Christmas decor that looks like it was purchased as a matching set from Martha Stewart! To me Christmas should be celebrated with a kaleidoscope of colours and objects that bring back memories and remind us of our Saviour–it’s time to think like a kid again and not worry about good taste. I love it :D
