Since it’s shark week, I have to start by sharing my shark story with you. My family was on vacation in Myrtle Beach three years ago, and my two oldest sons and I were having fun jumping in the waves together. I had one son in my arms and was holding the other’s hand as we jumped in waist deep water. At one point, I looked over at my oldest son and at that moment saw a shark swim right by him. I thought I was seeing things, but the shark turned and starting gliding back towards him. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever been more scared in my life. I pulled him in front of me and starting pushing him towards the shore, while still holding my other son.
It felt like a scene from a dream. Even though I was moving as fast as I could, it still felt like I was moving in slow motion. I didn’t dare look back. We made it safely to shore and, to be honest, I’ve never looked at sharks the same way again. Seeing one so closely definitely had an impact on all of us. My sons wanted to learn more about sharks, so after that experience we spend a lot of time learning more about them. So when shark weeks rolls around, we tune in.
Even though they scare the heck out of me, I can still appreciate the beauty of sharks. So when Heather asked the team to come up with a shark themed project, I decided to go glam with my shark crafts. Here are a few ideas for shark inspired jewelry that you can easily make.
Project estimate:
- Toy shark, $1
- Pendant and ring blanks, on hand or $1 and up
- Glue, on hand
- Spray paint, on hand
- Dimensional Magic, on hand or $3

I know small boys would love these! Better than a real shark tooth. Some shark species are facing extinction due to overfishing so this is a cool project. I shared : http://www.beadinggem.com/2013/08/celebrate-shark-week-with-cool-jewelry.html

One of my biggest thrills of scuba diving was when I went on a shark dive at Grand Bahama Island. Actually got to pet some sharks–Carribean Reef Sharks. To swim right along side of them is a magnificent experience.
