A few months ago my little lady and I were trying to come up with ideas for a “just because we love you” party to celebrate some of our favorite friends. We listed out some ideas, but then found ourselves busy with summer plans and forgot all about it. Then I received a copy of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh on Blu-ray and suddenly we found ourselves with the perfect “just because we love you” party theme!
I love that she is so excited about the movie! We’re really picky about what shows and movies our sweet girl watches, and Winnie the Pooh makes the cut every time! The beauty of Winnie and his friends is that they’re all about being together, so what better way to celebrate our friends than with a Hundred Acre Wood picnic party?!
We started by inviting our friends over to join us in watching The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (which will be released in DVD/Blu-ray combo pack on August 27th). While they were giggling and having a blast watching the movie, I snuck outside to set up the picnic party so it would be ready as soon as the movie was done.
I spread a large piece of lace on the grass, added a picnic basket and a few plush toys of Winnie, Tigger and Eeyore and some classic Winnie the Pooh books. I made a quick Hundred Acre Wood sign on a scrap piece of wood with acrylic paint and hung a few paper lanterns on shepherds hooks. Then I set up a picnic-perfect food table:
Our picnic menu:
- Almond butter and honey sandwiches
- Garden Veggies in creamy dill dip (the center cup pictured above has hummus for a friend with dairy allergies)
- Freshly picked berries with honey sweetened cream parfaits
- Vanilla bean cupcakes with honey frosting
- Sweet potato chips
- All natural soda
I included some bits of Winnie whimsy by adding colorful striped napkins wrapped around wooden picnic utensils with a mini pinwheel, and this sweet Winnie the Pooh Quote:
We thought this quote was perfect for our picnic party! All the party guests loved their food, which we placed on sweet little plastic trays from the dollar store.
Once they were done eating, we invited our guests to play a game of “Bouncing Tigger.” Girls took turns holding corners of a piece of lace (you could use a sheet or tablecloth or any piece of fabric) and trying to bounce Tigger as high in the air as they could and catch him again. I knew this game would be fun, but I had no idea the girls would end up in fits of laughter wanting to play all day- they LOVED it!
Next we played “Pin the Tail on Eeyore” which I found as a free printable here.
Then it was time for cupcakes and party favors! To create the party favors, I purchased little honey bears from my local farmers market, and embellished them with Winnie the Pooh themed stickers. Then I made tiny little party hats for each bear using scrapbook paper and little poms from the dollar store. Adorable!
Before our party was done, I had one last silly surprise for our party guests. I found the perfect character mask printables from Crafty Bouquets on Etsy, printed them out and assembled them so the girls could pose as their favorite characters!
Our Hundred Acre Wood party was a huge success! To stay in touch with that Silly Old Bear, connect with Winnie the Pooh on Facebook.
