As soon as I realized that we needed to choose an inspiration piece for this week’s Project Accessory craft-along, I knew that I wanted to use this Lia Sophia necklace.  It’s one of their limited edition Kiam Faily Signature Collection pieces from about 7 years ago.  It was outside of my budget, so I hosted a jewelry party specifically so I could order it for $15.  (I think it was about $95 at regular price – ouch!)  It’s been my very favorite piece of jewelry ever since!

Looking at the necklace, I immediately thought of two things I already had on hand:  ball chains and rhinestones.  Perfect.

First I made a wrap bracelet.  I cut a long strip of suede that was left over from last week’s challenge and spray painted it in with a textured dark silver color.  Then I attached a ball  chain by sewing a stitch in the space between two balls every couple of inches, giving it a draping that echoes the necklace.  Then I glued on some rhinestones.  It closes with peel-and-stick velcro,  mostly because I wasn’t in the mood to add any kind of closure that involved sewing.

Then I had to decorate up a pair of shoes!  I chose a pair of ballet flats that I bought on clearance at K-Mart a few years  ago for $2.  They originally had little bows  on the toes, but parts of the ends of the bows came unglued and they looked terrible.  I ripped off the bows and replaced them with some black rhinestone flowers from my junk jewelry collection, then draped them all the way around with the same beading technique.  Of course, I also had to add a few more rhinestones to each shoe for good measure.

I love  my  new matching accessories!  Do you craft along too?  If you did,  please link up your projects below!   (If you’re late to the party, don’t worry, this linky will stay open!)
